Waynad Walking Holiday

Description

Blessed with virgin Shola forests and grasslands of the western ghats, gushing rivulets and pristine evergreen forests, Waynad is tucked away in the North-Eastern part of Kerala. This relatively-unexplored destination in Kerala abounds with natural beauty and has clement weather for a good part of the year. Apart from trekking there are ample opportunities for adventure sports such as biking and ziplining.

In this 4 days/3 nights package, you will have an opportunity to climb one of the highest peaks in Waynad, trek through tea gardens and along Vythiri river, visit a tea factory and indulge in some adventure activities such as ziplining and bamboo rafting (in the right season). Accommodation will be in a comfortable plantation stay. If time permits, you can optionally go on a guided biking trip and visit popular sights.

Itinerary

• Day 1Bangalore - Kalpetta, Waynad

  The scenic drive from Bangalore to Kalpetta should take approximately 6 hours. Reach sometime in the evening and check into the home-stay.

• Day 2Waynad - Waynad

  The morning hike to Onnam Kettu (9 am to noon) takes you through tea gardens, evergreen forests and finally along the banks of river Vythiri. After the hike, enjoy ziplining over tea gardens on Kerala’s longest zipline. After a hearty lunch at the home-stay, go on a guided tour of a nearby tea factory to see first-hand, how tea leaves are processed. Towards evening, drive to Banasura dam, the largest earthen dam in India, to enjoy splendid views of the sun setting.

• Day 3Waynad - Waynad

  After a very early breakfast, set off to the road head for Mangalassery trek. The drive should take about an hour. The trek to the peak passes initially through a dense evergreen forest. Beyond the forest, the trail is mostly through open grasslands and offers stupendous views of the surrounds valleys and hills. The last stretch which takes about an hour is fairly steep and leads to a small lake at the top which serves as a watering hole. After a well-deserved lunch at the top, we shall re-trace the trail back to the starting point. 

• Day 4Waynad - Bangalore

  After breakfast, check-out from the home-stay and drive back to Bangalore and from there onward to your respective cities.

Note: the cost covers all arrangements from Kalpetta to Kalpetta. We can help you with travel from and to Bangalore at an extra cost of Rs. 3000 per head, each way.
