Description

Dayara Bugyal in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand counts among the most beautiful bugyals (high-altitude meadows) in the Indian Himalayas. Acres and acres of green, rolling hillsides dotted with wild-flower blooms during the post-monsoon season turn into snow-white skiing slopes during the winter months. This alpine meadow also offers fantastic views of towering peaks such as Bandarpoonch, Bhagirthi and many more.

The steep climb from Barsu village to the meadows can be done at any easy pace with an overnight stop at Barnala bugyal. The vast expanse of the bugyal deserves a day or two of exploratory hikes. Day hikes to Bakria top and Surya top near Siyaari are easy and rewarding options from the campsite at Dayara. For those wanting to experience trekking in snow, this trek can be done in the second half of December.

Itinerary

• Day 1Dehradun - Barsu

  After breakfast set off to Barsu (1050m) near Uttarkashi. Long 7 hour drive. Overnight in a resort at Barsu.

• Day 2Barsu - Barnala Buygal

  Just a 3.5km but steep 4-hour trek up to Barnala Bugyal (2000m).

• Day 3Barnala Buygal - Dayara Bugyal

  Only 4km but again, a steep 4-hour climb to the campsite at Dayara Bugyal (3048m).

• Day 4Dayara Bugyal - Surya Top

  After breakfast, set off to explore the meadows. A 6 hour walk up to Surya Top and back is one possible option.

• Day 5Dayara Bugyal - Barsu

  5 hour downhill walk.Stay at a resort in Barsu.

• Day 6Barsu - Dehradun

  A 6-hour drive to Dehradun, stopping for lunch on the way.
